 A Place in the Sun

Teachers as well as graduate and undergraduate students of the humanities are invited to submit presentation proposals for ACETA’s 67th Annual Conference to be held March 13-14, 2015, at the University of South Alabama, Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope. The conference will explore the interactions between the humanities and the notion of finding “a place in the sun.” Potential topics may include but are not limited to

  • Diasporas as presented in and by the various humanities
  • Representations of success (financial, personal, intellectual, aesthetic, etc.)
  • Representations of the good life
  • Dreams, aspirations, goals
  • Coastal communities
  • The sun/beach in song and story
  • Creating/highlighting student success as writers
  • Importance of place in the life of writers (professional or student)

Proposals of no more than 500 words should be sent no later than Monday, January 5, 2015 to Anissa Graham, Executive Secretary, ACETA, University of North Alabama, by email to amgraham@una.edu.  Electronic submissions are preferred.  Proposals should also include the presenter’s name, school affiliation, and position; panel proposals are welcomed as well. When proposing a panel, please indicate the names, affiliations, and positions of all members of the panel and if any of the presenters would be able to serve as the panel moderator. Audiovisual needs should be indicated as well.

Each presenter should limit himself/herself to a 15-minute talk. Presenters must pay the conference registration fee, which includes membership dues; this fee will be waived for undergraduate presenters.
